Since its inception in 2006, the Brompton Design District has presented a curated programme of pioneering design exhibits alongside launches and events by showrooms and shops during the annual London Design Festival.  This year Brompton’s curator Jane Withers builds on the district’s reputation for showcasing experimental work with the theme ‘Other Stories – alternative perspectives on design’.

In response to this, projects presented at 2 Cromwell Place illustrate how practitioners from varied regions use design as a tool to address broader issues. Here we discover process and research in design – from the topical subject of air quality, experimental approaches to making ceramics, revisiting marble carving as part of the Greek identity or exploring how revitalizing artisanal skills can positively fuel Beirut. On the first floor, photographs of custom-made details in Modernist architecture illuminate hidden narratives in design and making.
