100 chairs in 100 days

Martino Gamper, the ever–popular designer and RCA tutor, finished his design project ‘100 chairs in 100 days’ in October last year.

He held an exhibition in the Brompton Design District to show all the 100 chairs together and to celebrate the launch of his book about the chair making process over the 100 days. The exhibition was held at 5 Cromwell Place, the grand building in South Kensington that formely belonged to the painter John Lavery. The old art studio was full of strange and interesting chairs, some made from wood, some from plastic, some cushioned and some with wheels. All chairs were an amalgamation of previous chairs put together to make a chair hybrid.

The exhibition ran to coincide with the Frieze Art Fair and was in collaboration with the Brompton Design project
