Innovative research at the College explores the interface between science, medicine, engineering and business, delivering practical solutions to improve the quality of our lives.

Since its foundation in 1907, Imperial’s contributions to society have included the discovery of penicillin, the development of holography, and the foundations of fibre optics. Imperial is committed to encouraging everyone to engage and interact with its research, through a lively programme of year-round public events. In addition to taking part in collaborations such as the London Design Festival, it runs a series of evening Fringe events for people to explore the unexpected side of science and the annual Imperial Festival, which takes place in May and attracts over 10,000 visitors of all ages.
