Theatre de la Mode
Willows
29 Thurloe Place
For London Fashion Week Feb 2008, emerging London label Theatre de la Mode will present their first collection ‘Willows’ at 29 Thurloe Place — a former South Kensington ladies‘ fashion boutique. Designers Chris Kelly and Sara Flamm expertly blend the realms of fashion and art which, for this novel collection, is conceptualized by a mutual fascination for all things miniature.
Executed onto nanoscaled mannequins, the men’s and womenswear will be exhibited as anthropomorphic creatures of the woodland, when it launches during London Fashion Week. Re–created as bespoke figurines, ‘Willows’ manifests itself as an intriguing ensemble of wearable high-end casual-wear and modern tailoring, demonstrating an exciting display that challenges conventional ideas about fashion. Set against the exclusive backdrop of Thurloe Place, ‘Willows’ pays homage to the French couturiers, arousing a mood of post–war Paris.
The launch and continuing display is in collaboration with the brompton design project, an initiative by South Kensington Estates to bring life into vacant shop windows by encouraging designers and artists to use the space in an interesting and exciting way
